OK. I bought an ADS Tech PYRO A/V Link box, and plugged followed the instructions exactly and I can't get anything out of it. I've tried hooking it up to both a VCR and a SuperNintendo (via the composite in) and tried to:
1. Get the data to go into iMovie
2. Get the composite out on the back to register on my TV screen.
The first unit bought seemed broken, so I took it back to fry's (frys sunnyvale ca = crap) and got a new one. This one does the same thing, so unless BOTH are defected, this is more sinister than a problem with the unit.
iMovie refuses to see it, no matter how many times I cycle it's power. In fact, System Profiler doesn't even show anything on the Firewire bus. For kicks, I plugged in my iPod, and verified that the firewire bus is just fine.
So I took it to my TV, and tried to route my VCR data through it. When I hook it all up, I get nothing. In fact, I have never been able to get the "mode switch" to do anything. When everything was hooked up like the manual tells me to do, I got nothing. For yucks, I barreled the video cables (a simple bypass of the box) and got perfect video! So I know that all the pieces are working - excep the a/v link.
Do most of you users have problems with these configurations? Are you doing digital only? I was looking for a cheap analog solution, but I'm getting frustrated. Do I need to upgrade to a more expensive solution?
TIA!
I'm guessing it won't matter, but here's my computer configuration:
