Do you have to run a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire plug to master to analog from the computer? Or am I completely screwing something up trying to master from 6 pin to the analog. Someone, please help!

Hi,
I'm not sure I fully understand your question. Are you asking what firewire cable is needed to go from your PC (or MAC) to another Firewire Device (Camcorder, DVD Recorder, etc...) for exporting a DV Video? What is the "6 pin to analog" connection you are referring to? Some PC graphics cards will allow you to export a video from a PC without using Firewire at all (really just using the OUPUT capabilities of the Graphics Card). When I make a Master (or Backup) of a DV Video from my Desktop PC, I send it to my camcorder via firewire (6-pin connection on my PC, 4-pin connection on my camcorder). When I make a Master from my Laptop, I use a 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cable because my Laptop only has a 4-pin connection. Regards, George |

I am trying to master from my Ti-book (G4) to an ADS Pyro dv to analog (RCA's) converter. The only firewire out on the Ti-book is 6 pin, but the Pyro has input/ outputs for a 4-pin and a 6-pin. I can digitize everything into iMovie and Premiere 6.5 with no problems, but when I try to print to tape/ master in iMovie, the result is a horrid picture with worse audio (it seems digitally distorted), and when I try to master from Premiere, I get a green screen of video with no audio. Do I need to go from 6 pin (my computer) to 4 pin on the Pyro to master from the hardware?

#6 of the FAQ's for the Pyro A/V Link might be helpful (I use a PC, so I can't confirm that this will work on OSX).
ADS Tech FAQ's for Pyro A/V Link Both connections should work with the A/V Link (but I've heard some have better esults with one over the other -- some better with the 4-pin, some better with the 6-pin). Make sure the video you are sending out is a valid DV stream. The easiest thing to try is to capture a DV video with the A/V Link (at least a couple of minutes), then export that same capture back out to the A/V Link to make sure it's working before applying any edits to the video.
